Privacy Policy for Matchbook: Dating Journal App

Welcome to Matchbook, a personal dating tracking and journaling app. Protecting your privacy is a priority, and this Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information.

1. Information We Do and Don’t Collect

1.1 Personal Data

Matchbook does not store your personal data, profiles, chapters, or journal entries on our servers. All such data remains securely on your device unless explicitly exported by you, or choose to backup to iCloud.

1.2 Analytics Data

We collect optional analytics data to improve the app experience. Analytics include:

  • General app usage patterns (e.g., feature engagement).

  • Subscription and paywall interactions, managed by SuperWall.

  • Analytics services provided by Google Firebase and Google Analytics.

  • Push notification delivery and interaction data, managed by OneSignal.

Analytics data is anonymised and does not include your dating profiles or journal content.

2. Optional Analytics

Analytics are optional, and you can opt out anytime in the app’s settings. If you opt out, no analytics data will be collected from that point forward.

3. How We Use Data

We use collected data to:

  • Monitor app performance and improve features.

  • Analyse subscription interactions and manage Pro upgrades through SuperWall.

  • Identify and resolve bugs or app crashes (via Firebase).

  • Send notifications and track engagement with notifications (via OneSignal).

3.1 Data Storage and Security

If you enable iCloud Backup, your data will also be backed up to your personal iCloud storage managed by Apple. The following points apply:

  • Local Data: Data stored locally on your device is not accessible to us and will be lost if your device is damaged, reset, or replaced unless you back it up.

  • iCloud Backups: If enabled, your profiles, chapters, and journal entries will be automatically backed up to your personal iCloud account. Apple’s iCloud service handles the storage and security of this data. Matchbook does not access or process the data stored in your iCloud account.

We recommend enabling iCloud Backup to protect your data. If you choose not to use iCloud Backup, you can manually export and store your data elsewhere.

4. Third-Party Services

We work with trusted third-party services to enhance the app. These services have their own privacy policies:

  • Google Analytics: Tracks app usage statistics.

  • Google Firebase: Handles optional analytics and crash reports.

  • SuperWall: Manages Pro subscription paywalls.

  • Apple iCloud: If you enable iCloud Backup, your data will be stored in your iCloud account. This service is governed by Apple’s iCloud Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. Matchbook does not control or process data stored in iCloud.

  • OneSignal: Manages push notification delivery and interaction tracking.

5. Data Security

We prioritise the security of your data. User-generated content, such as profiles, chapters, and journals, is stored locally on your device. Matchbook does not access or transmit this content.

Exporting Data:

You can manually export data for personal use. You are responsible for securely storing exported files.

6. Subscription and Payments

Pro subscriptions are managed through the Apple App Store. This platform handles payment information securely, and Matchbook does not store or process payment data.

SuperWall helps manage subscription offers and paywall interactions, but all payments are processed securely through the Apple App Store.

7. User Controls and Opt-Out

Opt-Out Options:

  • Turn off analytics tracking in the app settings.

  • Manage your subscription or payment preferences directly through the App Store.

  • Disable push notifications in your device settings if you do not wish to receive notifications from Matchbook.

8. Your Rights

As a user of Matchbook, you have certain rights concerning your data. These may vary based on your location:

8.1 Rights Under UK Law (UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018):

  • Access: You can request access to the data we collect (Fully anonymised analytics data cannot be linked back to you.)

  • Correction: If you believe any data is inaccurate, you may contact us to correct it.

  • Deletion: You have the right to request the deletion of any data we have collected (e.g., analytics). Note that data stored on your device or in your iCloud backup is under your control.

  • Restriction: You may restrict processing of your data by disabling analytics in the app settings.

  • Data Portability: You can export your data to a file for personal use.

  • Complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you feel your data rights are violated.

8.2 Rights Under Other Jurisdictions:

Matchbook complies with applicable laws in other regions where the app is available. Users in the European Union, United States, or other countries may have additional rights under local laws.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or services. Updates will be posted in the app, and we encourage you to review the policy periodically.
